Gladys Rutledge, age 71, of Rolla, ND passed away peacefully on Friday, June 28, 2024 at Quentin Burdick Memorial Hospital, Belcourt, ND.
Gladys Rose Rutledge was born in Rolla, ND to John and Annabelle (Langan) Cain. She attended school in St. John, ND. Upon graduation, Gladys attended Wahpeton State College, then Mary College in Bismarck. Gladys moved to California where she had her first child, Deseire Scott. She moved back to St. John where she met and married Thomas Rutledge. Together they had a son, Jacques. After the marriage ended, Gladys earned a degree from Turtle Mountain Community College. She was employed by the Belcourt School District and worked at the Turtle Mountain Middle School for 21 years. Once retired, she often made trips to Bismarck to visit her son Jacques, daughter-in-law Stephanie, and grandchildren, Jameson and Ellie. Most recently, Gladys started working at St. Ann's second-hand store and talked about how much she loved being there. Meeting people every day and working with such wonderful people was something she looked forward to each week.
Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Deseire, brother Jimmy, nieces, Kristie Stewart and Shirley Anderson, nephew, Joey Cain, and brother-in-law's Charles Neault and Robert Martell.
Gladys is survived by her son, Jacques (Stephanie) Rutledge; grandchildren, Jameson and Ellie; sisters, Betty (Tom) Abrahamson, Barbara Martell, Patty (Tony) Davis, and Dorothy Neault; brothers, Duane and Donald (Julie) Cain; and many nieces and nephews.
Eulogy by Brenda Davis. Music by Kevin Jeanotte, Dolly Belgarde, and Bennette Jeanotte. Pallbearers are Shelby Davis, Tamme Jones, Florence Harviell, Flora St. Germaine, and Marla Boyer. Urn Bearers are Robert Martell and Duane Cain. Eucharistic Gifts by Chad and Shelby Davis.
A Mass of Chrisitan Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 6, 2024 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, St. John, ND. Father Richard Fineo presiding. A lunch will follow the funeral mass and then burial at Holy Cross Cemetery, St. John, ND.
