Gladys Mae
Henry
Nov 23, 1927 — Sep 7, 2023
Gladys Henry, age 95, of Rolette, ND passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 7, 2023 at her home.
Gladys Mae (Delorme) Henry was born on November 23, 1927 in Belcourt, ND to William and Eliza (Allard) Delorme. She was raised in Rolette County and attended Stephan Boarding School in South Dakota until her mother's illness, to help raise her two younger brothers Morris and Melvin. Gladys was united in marriage to Peter Henry on July 29, 1947 at St. Ann's Catholic Church, and they celebrated 49 years of marriage. Together they raised their five children, Darrell, Chris, Carol, Alfred, and Dale. They made their home on the Henry farm near Rolette and she worked alongside her husband on the farm. Gladys later worked as a Community Health Representative for the Turtle Mountain Tribe in Belcourt until she retired in her eighties. She was known for her light feet of smooth jigging and has won several competitions. She thrived on the excitement of winning at the casino, bingo, playing cards, and betting on her son's race horses. She would ask her family and friends, let's go for a puff and enjoyed chatting about anything, but mostly the concern about how they are doing. Even in her nineties, she would still push a lawn mower around the house before her son, Alfred would come and do the final mowing. She was a busy person, very seldom sat idle, and was always on the go in her little tan Buick. She welcomed visitors in her home openly with her caring hospitality. She enjoyed socializing on any occasion with all whom she made contact with regardless if it was over the phone, at her home, or in public. She was known for her signature perfume, Clinique that she wore. She was faithful in her prayer life. She had a wonderful, loving personality and she will be forever missed by her family members and friends.
Gladys is survived by her children, Darrell (Mary Jane) Henry of Belcourt, Larry "Chris" Henry of Rolette, Carol Champagne of Minneapolis, and Dale (Stephanie) Henry of Belcourt, daughter-in-law Bonita Henry of Rolette; sisters-in-laws Mabel Delorme of Bismarck and Carol Jean Delorme of Belcourt; 13 grandchildren, Michelle (Matt), Darren, Kristin, Joni (Jon), Alan (Kaylin), Katie (Courtney), Travis, Doug, and Marcus; 9 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
