Germaine Poitra, age 90, of Belcourt, ND passed away on Sunday, September 1, 2024 at Quentin Burdick Memorial Hospital, Belcourt, ND.

Germaine Myrtle Poitra was born on May 18, 1934 in Belcourt, ND to Philip and Agnes (Zaste) Belgarde.  She attended grade school in St. John and was proud to be a Woodchuck. Germaine later obtained her GED as well as some college courses at Turtle Mountain Community College.  Germaine was united in marriage to Thomas S. Poitra on June 14, 1958 at St. Ann's Catholic Church located in Belcourt, ND.  Together they raised three children, Carrie, Bradley, and Lori.  Germaine worked at Rolla Jewel Bearing Plant for 25 years.  She also worked as a teacher aide for another 25 years at St. Ann's/Ojibwa Indian School.  After retirement, she spent some time caring for her great-grandchildren. Germaine enjoyed bush dances, playing pinochle with friends, and the casino.  She most of all, loved spending time with her family.  She will forever be in their hearts.

Germaine is survived by her daughters, Carrie (Dave) Azure of Belcourt and Lori (Bryan DeCoteau) Poitra of Belcourt; son, Bradley A (Katherine Nadeau) Poitra of Belcourt; grandchildren, Cory Poitra, David "Blake" (JeriAnn) Azure, Jace (Kirstin) Azure, Jerick DeCoteau, Kalyn Poitra, and Corbert Poitra; great grandchildren, Zander Baker, Haidyn Poitra, Avery, Emberlyn, Thailyn Poitra, and Cy Poitra, Akealyes, Bella, and Jett Azure, Raeya, Rhylee, Reese Desjarlais, and Jayctin Azure, McKenzie DeCoteau and McKenley Vallie; great great grandchild, Kaniah Houle; siblings, Linus (Gaylene) Belgarde, Beverly (Vincent) Parisien, and Marlin Belgarde, all of Belcourt.

She was welcomed into the kingdom of heaven by her husband, Thomas Poitra; her father, Philip Belgarde, mother, Agnes Belgarde, brother, Philip Belgarde, sister-in-law, Frances Belgarde, brother-in-law, Vincent Parisien; nephew, Mark Belgarde; great-niece, Calleen Belgarde, and granddaughter, Jade Azure.

Casket Bearers are Jace Azure, Avery Poitra, Jerick DeCoteau, Robby Parisien, Danny Belgarde, and Curtis Poitra.  Honorary Bearers are Linus Belgarde, Beverly Parisien, and Marlin Belgarde. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, September 5, 2024 at 10:00 AM at St. Ann's Catholic Church, Belcourt, ND with a visitation beginning at 8:00 AM and Rosary Service at 9:00 AM prior to the funeral mass.  Burial will follow at St. Ann's Catholic Cemetery, Belcourt, ND. A meal will follow at the KC Hall, Belcourt, ND.
