Geraldine (LaFromboise) Marcavage (Spirit of the Loon Woman), age 86, of Devils Lake, ND passed away on Sunday, January 16, 2022 at her daughter's home in Bottineau, ND surrounded by her loving family. She is finally home with her Grandma Louise Ann and Grandpa Eli Marion of Belcourt, North Dakota which she constantly asked to be.
Geraldine Marie (LaFromboise) Marcavage was born on January 13, 1936 in Belcourt, ND to Joe and Elise (Marion) LaFromboise. She was raised in Belcourt and attended Turtle Mountain Schools, graduating from Rolla High School (1953). She furthered her education at Minot State's Teachers College for one year. Geraldine was enlisted in the United States Army and received an honorable discharge. She was united in marriage to John Marcavage on April 27, 1957 in Ft. McCullin, Alabama. Together they raised six children, Mary Jo, John Richard, Maria Elena, Geraldine, Gloria, and Julianne. Geraldine was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother where she dedicated her life to family, church, and community service. She worked as a teacher for a time at Ackworth School, Dunseith, ND and was a talented florist in St. Paul, MN. She shared her heritage of the Turtle Mountain Pembina Chippewa Tribe with many classrooms in Batesburg-Leesville, SC and was a devoted Christian and friend.
Geraldine is survived by her children, Mary Jo Marcavage of Lexington, SC, John Richard (Rita) Marcavage of Devils Lake, Maria Elena (Alan) Vormestrand of Devils Lake, Geraldine Peltier of Bottineau, Gloria (Clarence) Davis of Belcourt, and Julianne (Steven) Senn of Newberry, SC; 19 grandchildren, Jacalin Shealy, Travis Marcavage, Justin (Richanda) Marcavage, Kyle Brunelle, Alexandria (Abigail Knab) Brunelle, Gerianne Brunelle, Elena Clary, Cameron Clary, John (Brittany) Peltier, Paul (Jaide) Peltier, Jair Peltier, Mary Peltier, Julia Davis, Chugger Davis (Summer), Gia Davis, Jackson Davis (Jazzmin), Elyssia Marcavage, Joseph Voest, and Julian Senn; 13 great grandchildren, Logan James, Devin Marie, Anastasia Rain, Johnathan Richard, Kaiden, Insley, and Adaline Brunelle, Dayton Lenoir, Isaac Laducer, Jack Peltier, Apollo Peltier, Aubree Fox, and Giana Davis; brother, Richard "Jiggers" LaFromboise of Belcourt; sister, MaDonna Sealhammer of Kentucky; sisters-in-law Roxie LaFromboise of Belcourt, Maggie LaFromboise of Rolla, and Dolores Matthews of Media, PA, and many nieces, nephews, and Godchildren.
Geraldine was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Elise LaFromboise, husband, Deacon John Marcavage, brothers, Joseph and Gerald Dean LaFromboise, and sister, Maria Overby, brothers-in-law William Matthews, Richard Stickel, and Wayne Seelhammer, sisters-in-law Lois LaFromboise and Gloria Stickel, and Great Grandson Emerson Grey Brunelle.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, January 21, 2022 at 2:00 PM in St. Ann's Catholic Church, Belcourt, ND with visitation beginning at Noon and Rosary Service/Eulogy at 1:00 PM prior to the funeral mass. Father Jared Kadlec (St. Mark's, Bottineau) presiding. Burial will be in St. Ann's Catholic Cemetery, Belcourt, ND.
The family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider making a donation to St. Ann's Catholic Church, Belcourt, ND and/or to St. John of the Cross, Batesburg-Leesville, SC in Geraldine LaFromboise Marcavage's name.
