Gerald Ray
Haberstroh
Oct 16, 1940 — Apr 25, 2022
Gerald Ray Haberstroh, age 81, passed away April 25, 2022 in Apache Junction, AZ.
Gerald Ray (Joe) was born to Emil and Ethel (Sand) Haberstroh on Wednesday, October 16, 1940. He graduated from Hansboro High School and married Edith Erck in 1958. Following graduation, Joe and Edith resided in Fargo while Joe attended the Hanson Trade School. After completion of his education, Joe and Edith moved to the Herrala Farm in Picton Township where he would pursue his lifelong dream of farming.
Joe was passionate about every aspect of farming. His dream was to share his passion for farming with his boys and to teach them everything he knew. He was a hard worker and spent many long days and nights in the field getting his precious crop in the ground and harvesting it. He enjoyed coming back in the spring after he retired and helping on the farm, doing whatever needed to be done. He enjoyed, truly enjoyed visiting with others about his passion. Joe was always glad to share all the years of knowledge he had about farming. Joe was known for his sense of humor, which he had since he was a young child.
Joe married Laverne Voltz in 1979, they moved to Arizona and enjoyed living by the beautiful Superstition Mountains and warm weather. Joe loved to drive around in Arizona and North Dakota with his beautiful white shepherd dogs (Shepie, Twyla, and Julie) in the box of his pickup. People enjoyed visiting with him about the dogs and he was always more than happy to talk about them. Joe's dogs were his pride and joy.
As a young man, Joe was active in several boards. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. A highlight of his life was being invited on an African Safari as a photographer. He enjoyed displaying his photos and reminiscing about his trip.
Joe is survived by his sons, Kirk of Apache Junction, AZ, Mike (Gemma) of Hansboro, ND, Terry (Roxie) of Hansboro, ND, and Chad (Terri) of Sarles, ND; daughter, Lori Dupuis of Apache Junction, AZ; 14 grandchildren and many great grandchildren; his canine companion, Julie; siblings, Beatrix (Bob) Gault of Rolla, ND, Vernice Krick of Rolla, ND, Glenda Haberstroh of Grand Forks, ND, and Trent (Wynn) Haberstroh of Hansboro, ND; and aunt, Helen (Mickey) Juntunen of Brismarck, ND.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Pearl Haberstroh and Jean Haugen, brother, Kendall Haberstroh, and brother-in-laws, Bernard Haugen, Thomas Krick, and Royce "Pete" Johnson.
A burial will be held at the Hansboro Cemetery on June 15, 2022 at 3:00 PM. All family and friends are welcome to join us. A meal will be provided at the Hansboro Hall following the burial.
