George Trottier, age 88, of St. John, ND passed away on Sunday, January 12, 2020 at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND.
George Patrick Trottier was born on September 16, 1931 to Patrick Trottier and Agnes Patnaude in Belcourt, ND. He attended St. John School and worked on his father's farm until he joined the Navy in 1950, where he served in Guam as Aircraft Fire and Rescue. During this time, he met his beloved Donna Jean Holum and they were united in marriage on October 15, 1955. George and Donna had six children, Rodney (Sheila) Trottier of St. John, Lorral (Alvin) Poitra of St. John, Mark Trottier of St. John, Renee Parker of Parshall, Jeanie (Glenn) Marcil of Rolla, and Kari Ann (Dave) Geisinger of Bottineau. George was surrounded in love by his six children, 18 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, and soon-to-be great-great grandchild. George worked as a boilermaker/welder in various states throughout his life, working mainly in power plants. He had a passion for horse racing and spent the majority of his adult life competing with is prized thoroughbreds in the summer months, along with is wife, Donna and their children and grandchildren. He also trained many thoroughbreds for other owners as well. George had well over 100 victories during his time in the racing circuit. He loved playing cards with is family and friends and looked forward to a good visit over a cup of coffee, no matter the time of day. He was a true Woodchuck fan. He loved going to every game and continued to ask about those Woodchuck boys even after the season ended.
George is survived by his mother, Agnes Wheeler; sons, Rodney and Mark; daughters, Lorral, Renee, Jeanie, and Kari Ann; brothers, Glen, Richard, Joe, John, Robert, Kenneth, and Burton; and sister, Verna.
George was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Donna Trottier, father, Patrick Trottier, brother, Ronald, sisters, Silvia, Joyce, Frances, and Joan, and granddaughter, Kara.
Pall placed by all of his children. Readers are Whitney Carter and Casssandra Schroeder. Eucharistic Gifts by Jeanine Buxton, Christin Trottier, and Meadow Poitra. Casket Bearers are George Poitra, Evan Trottier, Weston Trottier, Mason Trottier, Rory Trottier, Kyler McGillis, Dalton Prouty, and Dave Geisinger. Honorary Bearers are all relatives, fellow horsemen, and friends. Music by Alvin Poitra, Craig Lunday, Jerry Parisien, Leonard Keplin, Christin Trottier, Hope Parker, and Jeanine Buxton. Rosary led by Andrea Poitra and his daughters.
A visitation will begin at 5:00 PM on Thursday, January 16, 2020 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, St. John, ND with a Rosary Service at 7:00 PM. Funeral Mass will be Friday, January 17, 2020 at 10:00 AM in the church with Fr. Richard Fineo presiding. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, St. John, ND in the spring.
