George Pitsiladis, age 79, of Rolette passed away unexpectedly on June 30, 2023 at his residence.

George was born on January 12, 1944, in Mytilene, Lesbos, Greece to Mary and Emmanuel Pitsiladis. He travelled the world working in various diners, restaurants, banquet halls, and cruise lines over the years. In 1986, he met his wife Cindy in Pittsburgh, PA, and they married a year later. In 1990, their family moved to Dunseith, ND, where they opened and ran The Gathering restaurant. After that restaurant closed its doors, he opened The Village Café in Rolette in 2000, which remains open to this day.

Anyone who knew George knew him as a very hard worker and very outspoken. He loved spending time with family and friends. He was a generous man who loved children and the community. It was a common sight that when kids came into the restaurant, he'd offer a sucker or five, or some other sweet before they left. He was especially doting to his grandchildren. He was also quick to share a joke or a story and was loyal to those who were loyal to him and his family.

Like his son, Christopher, George immediately made his presence felt any time he entered a room. He had an amazing spirit, and words cannot describe how much he will be missed.

George was preceded in death by his parents Emmanuel and Mary Pitsiladis, parent in laws Robert and Delores Winschell, brother Harry Pitsiladis, son Christopher, and niece Jenny Leitkam.

He is survived by his wife Cindy, his sister Pauline, his sons Don "DJ" (Shawnda), Rob (Courtney), John (Ashley), Billy (Adrian), Manny, and Michael (Jonathan), his daughter Sarah, grandsons Daniel, Isaiah, Josiah, Micah, Kayson, Madden, Beckett, Marvin, Austin, Mateo, and Dominic, granddaughters Molly, Taylor, and Ainsley, and many nephews, nieces, extended family, and close friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, July 5, 2023 at 11:00 AM at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Dunseith, ND with visitation beginning at 9:00 AM and Rosary Service at 10:00 AM prior to the funeral mass. Father Jeff Eppler presiding.
