George DeCoteau, age 84, of Rolette, ND passed away on Monday, October 5, 2020 at the Rolette Community Care Center, Rolette, ND.

George R. DeCoteau, Makwa Mishtatim (Bear Horse) Gete Bizhiki (Old Time Buffalo) of the Bear Clan, was born on March 4, 1936 to Alexander and Nora (Wilkie) DeCoteau.  He completde his elementary and high school education and then furthered his education at Mayville State University obtaining a teaching degree.  George was united in marriage to Marlis DeCoteau.  He was the father of seven children, George, Mark, Alex, Bonnie, Malissa, Kathy Jo, and Nicole.  He enjoyed being outdoors gardening, attending Pow-Wow's, camping, and horses.  George also liked cooking meals at Native American ceremonies.  He loved watching boxing on television as well.  George lived most of his life in Belcourt and also lived a short time in San Francisco working as a chef.  George will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed.

George is survived by his children, George DeCoteau of Belcourt, Mark (Tammy) DeCoteau of Artisa, NM, Alex DeCoteau of Rolla, Bonnie (Ross) Good of Rolla, and Malissa (Jeff) Fox of Thief River Falls, MN; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; wife, Marlis DeCoteau; and nieces and nephews.

George was preceded in death by his parents, children, Kathy Jo and Nicole, and his siblings, Larry, Fred, Alexander, and Lorraine Wessels.

Casket Bearers are Jeff Fox, Tommy Belgarde, James DeCoteau, and Roderick Bruce Jr.  Honorary Bearers are all family and friends.

A visitation will begin at the home of George DeCoteau, 4609 BIA Road #3, Belcourt, ND, at 6:00 PM on Wednesday, October 7, 2020.  Funeral Services will be Thursday, October 8, 2020 at 10:00 AM at his home followed by burial.
