George Leo
Allery
Apr 6, 1940 — Nov 30, 2025
George Allery, age 85, of Dunseith, ND passed away on Sunday, November 30, 2025 at Dunseith Community Nursing Home, Dunseith, ND.
Today, we remember the life of George Leo Allery, born April 6, 1940, in Belcourt, North Dakota, and raised on a farm near St. John by Crossroads Range. He spent his early years working on a farm before moving into town around 1950.
He served in the United States Army and, following his service, attended mechanical school in Fargo. After living in Fargo for a few years, he returned to St. John, where he married Susan Jane Allery (Demers) and raised their five children.
He worked for many years at the William Langer Jewel Plant, supporting his family on a single income, and later was employed as a janitor at Belcourt Middle School until he retired. Afterward, he and his wife Susan volunteered at the local Senior Center. His devotion to Susan was clear throughout his life; their partnership was characterized by loyalty, mutual support, and a shared dedication to their family. The loss of Susan to cancer marked a significant turning point in his later years.
His family includes sisters Marjorie Harviell, Emma Falcon (Ed), Bernice Thibert (Lawrence), Mary Falcon, and Julia Gourneau (Lloyd); brothers Eugene Allery Jr. (Rita), Louis Allery (Ermaline), and Shirley Nelson (Tom). His children are Melissa Allery of Fargo, Roxanne Baker (Brock) of Belcourt, Allison Allery of Fargo, Stephanie Allery of Rolla, and the late Stephen Allery (Kristi) of Grand Forks. His grandchildren are Jorja Youngren, Sophia Allery, Austin and Abby Allery, Jayden Allery, Kristen, Trenton and Jessica Bruce, and step-grandchildren Elin, Sonny, and Cedar Baker.
He was preceded in death by his father, Eugene Allery, mother Virginia Allery, brothers Louie and Gene Allery, sisters Bernice Thibert and Marjorie Harviell, his wife Susan Allery, and his son Stephen Allery.
He passed away at the Dunseith Nursing Home on November 30, 2025, due to dementia-related health issues and age. Dementia took him before his time on earth felt truly complete. For families and individuals affected by dementia, the journey can be challenging and complex. It is important to remember that those living with dementia are more than their illness, and their worth and dignity remain. Reaching out for support, understanding, and compassion can make a significant difference for those facing similar challenges.
A Prayer
God of all comfort, we entrust George Leo Allery into your care. Grant him peace and rest from his labors. As it is written, "Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me." (Psalm 23:4, NIV) May those who remember him fondly find strength and acceptance. Amen.
To honor his years of hard work and the rest he has now found, we share this poem:
A Poem: Rest Now, Hands That Worked.
Hands that labored, strong, and sure, tasks completed; burdens endured.
Now the day is finally done, rest begins; the work is won.
Journeys end, journeys begin,
Time to lay down a heavy heart.
In peaceful quiet, may he stay,
Freed from toil and earthly strain.
