Gary Poitra Jr., age 59, of Dunseith, ND passed away on Saturday, June 8, 2024 at Quentin Burdick Memorial Hospital, Belcourt, ND.

Gary Jerome Poitra, Jr. was born on September 27, 1964 in Belcourt, ND to Gary Sr. and Ramona C. Poitra.  Gary was raised in Dunseith, ND and graduated from Dunseith High School.  He was the father of three children, Tanya, Kayla, and Skylar.  Gary worked for PCS Concrete and then currently for Marion Construction as a security guard. Gary was a "bush mechanic," working on cars as well.  He enjoyed playing dice with his friends, playing guitar, and singing, which was his passion.  Gary lived in Dunseith with his companion and soulmate, Janelle Wallette.  He will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed.

Gary Jr. is survived by his companion, Janelle Wallette; children, Tanya Poitra, Kayla (Ron) Houle, and Skylar Poitra; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; mother, Ramona Poitra; siblings, Alan (Mark) Poitra-Larsen, Roger Poitra, Linda (Ron) Davis, Cynthia (Terry) Marion, Nancy Poitra, and Leslie (Scott) Peterson; and many nieces and nephews.

Gary Jr. was preceded in death by his father, Gary Poitra Sr., two brothers, Stuart and Conway Poitra, infant sister, Mary Poitra, and grandson, Kalob.

Casket Bearers are Frank Gillis, Josh Faine, Wyatt Johnson, Ron Houle, Alan St. Germaine, and Richard "Spunky" LaFromboise. Honorary Bearers are Dan Clark, Quentin Demery, Wayne Parisien, Corey DeCoteau, Kevin Wilkie, Kayden Houle, Kyron Houle, and Ron Houle Jr. Music by Wyatt Johnson and Nathaniel Belgarde.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, June 13, 2024 at 10:00 AM at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, Dunseith, ND with visitation beginning at 8:00 AM and Rosary Service at 9:00 AM prior to the funeral mass. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Dunseith, ND. Father Tony Hession presiding.
