Francis Smith Sr., age 87, of Rolla, ND passed away on Sunday, March 31, 2024 at St. Kateri Hospital, Rolla, ND.

Francis Anthony Smith Sr. was born on September 6, 1936 in Belcourt, ND to Louis and Cecelia (Warren) Smith.  He was raised in Belcourt as well.  Francis was united in marriage to Lorraine Zaste, she preceded him in death.  He was the proud father of nine children, Francis Sr., Dwight, Harvey, Geraldine, Travis, Sheila, Lois, Louis, and Violet. Francis worked many different jobs including construction, at junk yards, and truck driving during potato and beet seasons.  He loved the outdoors, fishing, working on cars, gardening, farming, and especially working on his lawn.  He enjoyed all things outdoors, animals included.  Francis dearly loved his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, as well as spending time with them.  He will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed.

Francis Sr. is survived by his children, Francis Smith Jr. of Rolla, Dwight (Rhea) Smith of Belcourt, Harvey (Bernice Lattergrass) Smith of Belcourt, and Geraldine Smith of Fargo; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren; siblings, Shirley Spoonermore of SD, Kathy Finneman of Grand Forks, Clara Gross of TX, and Bernie Smith of Grand Forks; and many nieces and nephews.

Francis Sr. was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Lorraine Smith, children, Travis Smith, Sheila Smith-Storey, Lois Smith, Louis Smith, and Violet Smith, and siblings, Johnny Smith, Kenneth Smith, Betty Moen, Debbie Muellings, Rosela Benkie and Linda Lundeen.

A private family burial will be held at a later date.
