Frances A. (Fran) Belgarde, 87, passed away on November 21,2022 at Quentin Burdick Memorial Hospital in Belcourt, North Dakota.
Frances was born on April 23, 1935 in Belcourt, ND to Chris and Rita (Thomas) LaFontaine. She attended and graduated from Mount Pleasant High School in Rolla, North Dakota. After graduation Frances was united in marriage to Philip Belgarde, Jr. (Sac) on November 30, 1956 at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Belcourt, North Dakota. Together they had two sons, Mark and Daniel. She worked along with her husband at the Wahpeton Indian School as a cook for a few years before returning to Belcourt and beginning her stint of 37 years as the library aid for the Turtle Mountain Community High School. Frances enjoyed playing bingo, going to rummages, and caring for all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also loved visiting with relatives and friends. Frances will be lovingly remembered as a small lady with a huge heart and greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Frances is survived by her son, Daniel (Nichole Morin) Belgarde of Belcourt; eight grandchildren, Adam Azure, Callie Jo Azure, Kutter Belgarde, Kandessa Belgarde, Sarah Belgarde, Philip Belgarde, Courtney Belgarde, and Kidd Baker; 13 great grandchildren, Rylee Marcellais, Emree Marcellais, Lannik Azure, Jacie Longie, Jayden Longie, Jaylon Belgarde, Michael Belgarde, Collen Belgarde, Kenleigh Belgarde, Kennden Belgarde, Malani Belgarde, Kendell Belgarde, and Kyleigh Belgarde; sister, Irene Bear Runner of Belcourt; and many nieces and nephews.
Frances was preceded in death by her parents, Chris and Rita (Thomas) LaFontaine, husband, Philip (Sac) Belgarde, son, Mark Belgarde, grandchild, Calleen Belgarde, and siblings, Alvin (Sugs) LaFontaine, Myron LaFontaine, Leonard LaFontaine, and Aaron Ducolon.
Music by Terry Baker. Urn bearers are all grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Tuesday, November 29, 2022 at 10:00 AM at St. Ann's Catholic Church, Belcourt, ND with visitation beginning at 8:00 AM and Rosary Service at 9:00 AM prior to the funeral mass with Fr. Michael Slovak presiding. A meal will follow at Fiddler's Hall, Belcourt, ND.
