Evelyn M Berube, 8/10/1926 – 3/2/2021

Evelyn Marie Berube, 94, formerly of Belcourt, ND, passed away, surrounded by family, peacefully at home in Andover, MN, on March 2, 2021, succumbing to a long battle with Dementia.

Evelyn was born August 10th, 1926, on the family farmstead west of Belcourt, ND, to Josephine Gladue and Joseph Vandal, where she lived and worked in her parents general store.  She attended and graduated from high school in Belcourt.  Shortly after, she married her sweetheart, Edward Joseph Berube on June 26, 1945, at St. Ann's Mission in Belcourt by the Rev. Stan Maudlin. They made their living on the family farm north of Rolette with their seven children, Sharon, Eldon, Gary, Brenda, Brian, Perry and Tim.  Evelyn and Ed farmed for over 50 years, retiring in 2007.

Evelyn and amazing cook and baker was not a typical homemaker.  When not helping with the farming effort, she enjoyed spending time on several of her hobbies, including woodworking, painting, and gardening.  Diamond Willow picture frames, crosses, and canes adorned their home.  Through the years, several of her paintings and Diamond Willow creations could be found on display at local venues for all to enjoy.  She was also an avid doll collector and loved her jewelry.  When not working, Evelyn also knew how to have fun!  Possessing a rich sense of humor and impeccable wit, she was always the source of humor, harmless pranks and ridiculous fun during times spent with family and friends, one of the many joys for her and us as well!  And then there was the casino, her "personal fun" time and she always seemed to win!

Evelyn's faith was also a very prominent part of her life.  She and Ed were active members of the Sacred Heart Parish in Rolette as well as St. Ann's Mission in Belcourt.  At St. Anns, she was a longtime member of the Queen of Peace Oblates, Cursillo, & TEC to name a few.  Evelyn was always focused on being a mentor in the Catholic faith to others, being a leader in TEC as well as a marriage counseling sponsor with her husband, Ed.

After Ed's death in 2008, she spent a year at the Queen of Peace at St Ann's Catholic Mission, enjoying her time ministering to others.  As time went on, Evelyn required additional care due to the effects of dementia.  She moved to Park View Assisted Living in Rolla until 2013 at which time she moved into Memory Care at Epiphany Assisted Living in Coon Rapids, MN, near her son, Tim.  Her final weeks were spent at her son's home, under hospice care, passing away with family by her side.   Mom was truly loved by her family and will be dearly missed.

Those most honored to share in her life; Daughter, Sharon Austel, Simi Valley, CA;  Daughter-in-law, Glennis (Eldon), Glendale, AZ; Son-in-law, Myron (Brenda) Lenertz, Bismarck;  Sons, Gary (June), Mandan; Brian (Risa), Mandan; Perry, Euclid, MN; and Tim (Michelle), Andover, MN.  Evelyn was additionally blessed with 20 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Edward; parents, Joe and Josie Vandal; son, Eldon; daughter, Brenda; brothers, Carris, Leo, and Albert Vandal, and sister, Lillian Albrecht.

A Funeral Mass will be held on 10:30 AM, May 29 ^th 2021, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Rolette, ND.  Father Kevin Boucher presiding.  Directly following the service, a grave side memorial will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Rolette, ND, at which time Evelyn's remains will be laid to rest.
