Elizabeth LaVallie, age 86, of Belcourt, ND passed away on Friday, July 11, 2025 at Parkview Assisted Living, Rolla, ND.
Elizabeth (Champagne) LaVallie was born on May 5, 1939 in Belcourt, ND to Louis "Dan" and Victoria (Vallie) Champagne. She was raised in Belcourt and attended Greatwalker School, furthering her education for three years at Turtle Mountain Community College obtaining an Associate of Applied Science and an Associates of Science degree. Elizabeth was united in marriage to Gregory LaVallie on December 26, 1957 in Belcourt. Together they raised five children, Alfred, Geneva, Darrell, RoxAnne and Gregg. Elizabeth worked as a Community Health Representative and as a Dental Assistant for Indian Health Services in Belcourt. She loved time spent with her family members, her husband, her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchild, and siblings. She liked traveling with Gregory in years past which brought them much joy, they traveled throughout California, Washington, Oregon, Colorado, Texas, Tennessee, Maryland, and Alaska. Elizabeth enjoyed reading, watching Jeopardy, which she has watched since the 60's when hosted by Art Fleming, and loved quilting. She also liked watching wildlife and talking in Mitchif with family and friends. Liz was part of the Mitchif revitalization group which she greatly enjoyed. Elizabeth will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed.
Elizabeth is survived by her children, Alfred LaVallie of Belcourt, Geneva (Dennis) Hunt of Belcourt, Darrell LaVallie of Belcourt, and RoxAnne (June) LaVallie-Unabia of Chicago, IL; nine grandchildren, Stephanie, Jessica, Kayla, Radlee, Darrell Jr., Shantel, Ryann, Joseph, and Sean; six great grandchildren, Cameron, Avianna, Jackson, Taylor, Bailee, and Ares; a great great grandchild, Aspen; siblings, Rita Counts of Dunseith, Louis Martinez of Mandan, Deborah Koster of Glen Ullen, and Elizabeth Nadeau of Belcourt; sister-in-law, Margaret Champagne of Belcourt, brother-in-law Michael LaVallie of Belcourt; brother-in-law, Roger Peterson of Surgis, SD and nieces and nephews.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Victoria Champagne, husband, Gregory, son, Gregg LaVallie, grandson, Dahl LaVallie, brothers, Joseph, Frank, Willard "ChiMal", and William "Johnny", and sisters, Rita Leen, Helen Peterson, and Cecelia Clemetson.
Casket Bearers are all grandchildren and Godchildren. Honorary Bearers are all family and friends. Music by Alvin Poitra and Craig Lunday. Rosary by Ella McLeod and Patty Allery. Eucharistic Gifts by Colleen Davis and Charlene Allard. Readers are Sue Belgarde and Gaillord Peltier.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, July 16, 2025 at St. Benedict's Catholic Church, Belcourt, ND with visitation beginning at 8:00 AM and Rosary Service at 9:00 AM prior to the funeral mass. Burial will follow funeral services in the church cemetery. Father Richard Fineo presiding.
