Edward Herman, age 87, of Belcourt, ND passed away on Thursday, May 11, 2023 at Quentin Burdick Memorial Hospital, Belcourt, ND.

Edward James Herman was born on June 17, 1935 in Belcourt, ND to Ernest and Mary (Belgarde) Herman. He was raised in Belcourt and completed his education there as well. Edward enlisted in the United States Army and received an honorable discharge serving two tours. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Laducer on August 7, 1957 at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Belcourt. Together they raised seven children, Edward James Jr., Darrell Vincent, Donna Lisa, Clifford "Buck" Scott, Audra Jean, Yvette Rae, and Yvonne Rae. Edward worked as a police officer, welder, iron worker, and at the missile sites. He was a member of the pipefitters union, worked for Clark Equipment out of Bismarck and as a manager at Turtle Mountain Manufacturing until his retirement. Often referred to as "The Legend", he was an amazing pool player and was known by many for his expertise. Edward was an avid golfer, playing on many courses throughout the states and Canada. He loved his family above everything and had a deep faith for the Catholic Church. He enjoyed a nice meal and could watch sports around the clock. He had a special nickname for all of his children and was a good friend to many. He will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed.

Edward is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Dorothy (Laducer) Herman of Belcourt; his children, Edward Herman Jr. of Belcourt, Donna (Patrick) Brown of Fargo and Belcourt, Clifford "Buck" (Barb) Herman of Trenton, Audra (Terry) Poitra of Rolla, and Yvette (Christopher) Wolfe of San Antonio, TX; 22 grandchildren, Brooke, Keeli, Lexi, Elizabeth, Chelsey, McCall, Hailee, Samantha, Alex, Kaleb, Katilynn, Darilyn, Emma, Mason, Hunter, Alexis Brianna, Judd, Jensen, Belle, Kayana, and Lulu; 14 great grandchildren, Ronalee, Carlee, Sophia, Jaxon, Camilla, Ellia, Eliza, Alo, Westyn, Henley, Watson, Sutton Edward, River, and Talon; siblings, Jeanette Brien of Belcourt, Shirley (Verlin) Allery of Belcourt, and Daniel (Carol) Herman of Grand Forks; his dog, Sugars; and many nieces and nephews.

Edward was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Mary Herman, son, Darrell Herman, daughter, Yvonne Herman, brother, Donald Herman, and his dog, Mister.

Casket Bearers are Alex Herman, Kaleb Herman, Eller Bonifacio, Judd Wolfe, Randall Tetrault, and Christopher Wolfe. Pall placed by his oldest granddaughters, Brooke, Lexi, Brianna, Hailee, Kayana, and Hunter. Readers are Samantha Rabbithead and Hunter Poitra. Eucharistic gifts by Ronalee Ratliff and Carlee Ratliff. Rosary led by Carol Herman. Music by Chad Marcellais and Gloria Davis. Eulogy by granddaughter Lexi Luger. Military Honors by the Lilley-Dionne American Legion Post 262 and the ND Funeral Honor Guard.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at 10:00 AM at St. Ann's Catholic Church, Belcourt, ND with visitation beginning at 8:00 AM and Rosary Service at 9:00 AM prior to the funeral mass. Father Thai Arul presiding. Burial and military honors will follow funeral services at St. Ann's Catholic Cemetery, Belcourt, ND. A meal will follow at Fiddler's Hall, Belcourt, ND.
