Dwight Trottier, age 68, of Belcourt, ND passed away on Monday, October 17, 2022, at his home surrounded by family.

Dwight Lee "Ike" Trottier was born on August 23, 1954 in Belcourt, ND to Raphael and Marie (Brunelle) Trottier. He was raised in Belcourt and graduated high school from Turtle Mountain Community School.  He enlisted in the United States Army in 1970 and received an honorable discharge in 1973.  He belonged to the 10 ^th Mountain Brigade as an infantryman/paratrooper earning a Parachute Badge.  He was very proud to have served his country and loved wearing baseball caps that displayed his veteran status.  Furthering his education, he attended Valley City State College where he received a Bachelor's Degree in Education.  While teaching history and economics at the Turtle Mountain Community College, he began work on his Master's degree at the University of Oklahoma.  When he accepted an administrative position with the Belcourt School District, he focused on that position.

Ike was united in marriage to Brenda Allick on May 24, 1975. Together they raised four children Natasha, Erika, Ike II, and Joseph.

Dwight loved the outdoors especially hunting, watching his grandchildren play sports, and visiting with people oftentimes known to stretch a 2 minute story into a 15 minute story.  He is remembered by many as "being good" to them.  On most Sunday mornings after Mass, Ike could be found at the Sky Dancer casino playing his favorite machine but he made sure he was home at 12 noon sharp for Sunday dinner with his family. Ike was a fan of the Vikings and the Twins, always following them on television and attending games with his family. He took pride in his yardwork and the beauty his hard work left behind.

Ike was high school football and wrestling coach.  His love for wrestling is evidenced by he himself being a high school wrestler beginning as an 8 ^th grader wrestling in the 95 pound weight class—a wrestling career that continued until he graduated from high school.  He was very influential in the high school wrestling careers of many young wrestlers including his sons Ike and Joe and his grandson Josiah.  Around 1990, Dwight and his brother Derrick established the Bad Boys Wrestling Club.

He exceled at woodworking and carpentry.  Some of his first woodworking projects were music boxes.  Ike was very detail oriented and very meticulous in his work.  One of the first projects Ike constructed the framework for the Life of St. Ann plaques which hang on the east wall of St. Ann's. Prior to that project, Ike used his carpentry skills to help remodel the building which now serves as the Adoration Chapel.  He was very creative and had an eye for design.  Many of the furniture pieces in the Adoration Chapel were designed and made by Ike. Another project Ike was instrumental in completing was the foyer of St. Ann's.  At Father Jeff Eppler's request, Ike remodeled a room for an Adoration Chapel at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Grafton.  Father Jeff also asked Ike to use his creative ability to design and build a lighted frame for a very delicate stained glass piece.

Ike was an active member of St. Ann's Catholic Church frequently volunteering, with his wife Brenda, their services for the parish.  He was a devout Catholic who, for years, attended daily Mass.  He was never afraid to display his faith as many of the t-shirts he wore had scripture verses on them.

Ike will be remembered as a loving husband, father, Papa, brother, uncle and cousin.  To say he will be missed is an understatement.

Dwight is survived by his wife, Brenda Trottier of Belcourt; children, Natasha  (Chad) Marcellais of Belcourt, Erika (Ron) Malaterre of Belcourt, Ike ( Kayla) Trottier II of Belcourt , and Joseph (Katie) Trottier of West Fargo; siblings, Jim Brunelle of Belcourt, Raphael (Gail) Trottier of Belcourt, Ron (Rose Ann) Trottier of Belcourt,  Derrick (Kathy) Dixon of Belcourt, Patti (Richard) Wilkie of Belcourt, and Carla (Kurt) Peltier of Belcourt; grandchildren, Jeryn, Kylin, Josiah, Torri, Elahn, Hallie, Embry, Gracie, Sahrya, Ellius, Mathias, and Ike III; great grandchild, Avianna; and many nieces and nephews.

Dwight is preceded in death by his parents Raphael and Marie Trottier; stepfather Bob Enno; brothers, Wayne Trottier Sr. and Patrick Dean Trottier; and two angel grand babies.

A Funeral Mass will be held Thursday October 20, 2022, at 3:00 PM at St. Ann's Catholic Church, Belcourt, ND with visitation beginning at Noon and Rosary Service at 2:00 PM prior to funeral mass. Burial will follow at the St. Ann's Catholic Cemetery, Belcourt, ND.  Military Honors by the Lilley-Dionne American Legion of Belcourt and the Grand Forks Funeral Honor Guard.  Pallbearers are Ike's grandson/nephews/great nephews Josiah Marcellais, Michael Wilkie, Eric Wilkie, Ray Trottier, Mike Allick, Wayne Trottier, Jr., Tanner LaRocque and Ross Jordan Peltier.
