Obituary

Dorothy Hanlan, age 92, of St. John, ND, passed away on Friday, August 25, 2023 at St. Kateri Hospital, Rolla, ND.

Dorothy Louise (Allen) Hanlan was born on November 22, 1930 in Vista, California to Charles and Frankie (Reed) Allen. She attended school out in Oregon where she received her high school diploma. She then attended college pursuing a business degree. She was united in marriage to Vernon Hanlan on April 2, 1948 in Gresham, Oregon. Together they had five children Jerry, Tom, Richard, Mike, and Pat. Dorothy worked many years at Presentation Medical Center in the Business Office, and at the switch board. Dorothy will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed.

Dorothy enjoyed the outdoors, especially spending time at Hanlan Lake with her family or sister Billie.  Dorothy and her sister Billie went on many great adventures back to California, Oregon, and Texas, among other locations.  Most cherished times were Sunday breakfast with her family, and getting to spend time with her grandchildren, great- grandchildren, and great-great-grandchild.  One of her favorite past times was watching birds, especially hummingbirds.  She loved flowers and was great at nurturing and keeping them looking beautiful.  She loved to collect anything that had to do with hummingbirds or angels.

Dorothy is survived by her children, Jerry (Mary) Hanlan of St. John, Tom (Judith Grandbois) Hanlan of St. John, Richard (Cheryl) Hanlan of St. John, Mike (Nancy) Hanlan of St. John, and Pat (Denise Monette) Hanlan of Shelton, WA; 17 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Frankie Allen, husband, Vernon Hanlan, sisters, Lois "Billie" Yokley and Lodine Smith, and step-father, Hobart Taylor.

Casket bearers will be her grandsons. Honorary casket bearers are all grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great-grandchild.
