Dennis DeMontigny, age 71, of Belcourt, ND passed away on March 5, 2021 at the IHS Hospital, Belcourt, ND.

Dennis Herman DeMontigny was born on June 3, 1949 in Belcourt, ND to Ferdinand and Alice (Trottier) DeMontigny.  He was raised in Belcourt and completed his education there as well.  Dennis furthered his education obtaining a Master's Degree.  He was instrumental in founding the Turtle Mountain Community College as well as working a professor for many years, which he loved.  Dennis was the proud father of four children, David, Tina, Toni, Elizabeth, and also Preston, who he considered his own.  He loved his family dearly and treasured time spent with them.  Dennis enjoyed peaceful days at home "the Ranch," horses, especially Mabel, canoeing, and skydiving and scuba diving in his younger years.  He was extremely proud of his cultural background, always reading and learning to further his education and expand his mind.  Dennis will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed.

Dennis is survived by his children, David DeMontigny of Belcourt, Tina DeMontigny of Grand Forks, Toni DeMontigny of Grand Forks, Elizabeth Laverdure of Waubun, MN, and Preston Wilson of Belcourt, ND; nine grandchildren, Joseph, Tianna, Mason, Cheyenne, Alex, Gabrielle, Ozaawaa, Neegonee, and Matthew; six great grandchildren, Noah, Kahlessi, Terrain, Natalie, Nakoma, and Anastasia; siblings, Edward of Minneapolis, MN, Peggy DeCoteau of Belcourt, Kerrie Davis of Grand Forks, and Eli of Bismarck; and his nieces and nephews.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Fredinand and Alice DeMontigny, brothers, Patrick, Franklin, Ferdinand Jr., Gerald, and Rene DeMontigny, and sisters, Rachael Dionne and Helen Thomas-DeMontigny.

A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
