DeLoris Helgeson, age 92, of Bottineau, ND passed away peacefully on July 6, 2023 at St. Andrew's Hospital, Bottineau, ND surrounded by loving family.

DeLoris Erna Helgeson was born on January 2, 1931 in Kramer, ND to Jacob and Erna (Gonitzke) Marzolf.  She was raised in Kramer and completed her education at Kramer High School.  DeLoris was united in marriage to Clarence O. Helgeson on August 18, 1948, he preceded her in death on August 8, 1987.  Together they had seven children, Vicki, Larry, James, Sonja, Rodney, David, and Shari.  She worked at the Red Owl in the bakery department for a short time in Bottineau.  Clarence and DeLoris owned and operated Helegson's Bar in Bottineau for 32 years, retiring in 1982.  She was an avid supporter and lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Post 8688 of Bottineau, where she held many different offices including president.  Her commitment to the auxiliary was unwavering, donating her time during annual fundraisers and making and donating quilts to veterans and those currently serving our country. She was also a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Bottineau.

DeLoris enjoyed baking and canning, often sharing her delicious recipes at family gatherings, her rosettes and pizzelles, juneberry pies, pumpkin rolls and jellies and jams were all favorites.  She had a knack for making beautiful quilts for her family members and also sold many quilts along with her embroidered dish towels and various crafts that kept her busy all year round.  In younger years, many memories were made at Lake Metigoshe where she and Clarence had a beautiful lake side lot that was often visited by their children and grandchildren in the summer months.  Family and friends enjoyed their lake time together and the fried chicken meal every Sunday before parting ways.  More memories were made every year during Christmas time at their home in Bottineau where all children and grandchildren gathered to share a wonderful meal, gifts made from their heart, only opened after the dishes were done and kitchen was cleaned, music played on her keyboard and accordion, and often a slide show prompting everyone to reminisce and tell stories. Her luck never seemed to run out when playing nickels, chase the ace, or an occasional slot machine at the casino.  DeLoris gave us much to be thankful for, she will be lovingly remembered and forever missed.

DeLoris is survived by her children, Larry Helgeson of Bottineau, James (Candy) Helgeson of West Fargo, Sonja (Gerard) Barbot of Rolette, Rodney (Mary Lou) Helgeson of Bismarck, and Shari (Dave Schwartz) Dumdai of Jamestown; grandchildren, Corey (Melissa) Bristol of Stanley, Chris (Lynn) Bristol of Bottineau, Callie (Dani) Helgeson of Grand Forks, Nikki Jo (Luke) Klefstad of Grand Forks, Heidi (Dean) Tong of West Fargo, Lori (Mark) Martinson of Rolette, Beth (Matt) Keen of Chanhassen, MN, Melissa (Brandon) Elick of Rolla, Joe (Twyla) Barbot of Beulah, Angela (Matt) Olson of Fargo, Riley (Jenna) Helgeson of Grand Forks, Randy (Abby) Helgeson of Park River, Melissa (Jason) Grzadzieleski of Bismarck, Joey LaHaise of Fargo, Ian Dumdai of Jamestown, Hailey (Craig) Kilber of Lincoln, and Jordan Dumdai of Jamestown; 45 great grandchildren; eight great great grandchildren; sister, Alvina Conger of Bismarck; son-in-law, Harvey Bristol of Maxbass; and nieces and nephews.

DeLoris was preceded in death by her parents, Jacob and Erna Marzolf, husband of 39 years Clarence O. Helgeson, infant son, David Helgeson, daughter, Vicki Bristol, brothers, Norman, Wilmer, and Leonard Marzolf, and son-in-law, Kevin Dumdai.

A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, July 12, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Bottineau, ND with Pastor Christopher Neuendorf officiating.  Burial will follow funeral services at Oak Creek Cemetery, Bottineau, ND.  A meal will also follow services in the church dining hall, all are welcome to attend.
