Delores Azure, age 86, of St. John, ND passed away on Saturday, August 3, 2019 at the Belcourt Hospital, Belcourt, ND surrounded by her loving family.

Delores Isabelle Azure was born on May 5, 1933 in Belcourt, ND to Frank and Mary Delia (Davis) Malaterre. She was raised in Belcourt and attended Stephan Boarding School during her high school years. She furthered her education at TMCC for a short time, obtaining her GED and completing her para professional competency test to acquire her certification. Delores was united in marriage to Peter C. Azure Sr. on November 14, 1951 at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Belcourt. Together they raised 8 children, Donovan, Debbe, Peggy, Matthew "Macky", Jeremiah "Trucker", Barbara, Jeff, Peter Jr. "Peto." She also raised 7 of her brother's children, Adrian Jr., Michael, David, Sandra, Julie, Becky, and Colleen Malaterre, and her grandson, Chad Azure. Delores worked as a para professional for Turtle Mountain Middle School for many years, retiring in 2017. She enjoyed quilting, going on wagon rides, going to the casino, and was an avid reader. Delores loved time spent with her family members at picnics, going to the casino, and while taking trips with her children and grandchildren. Her heart was full when she was with her children and grandchildren during family events, traveling, and even checking out thrift stores with her great grandchildren. She also cherished her time spent with her nieces and nephews, always enjoying their visits. Delores was known to many as "grandma" or "Kokoom," as she taught the Mitchif language to the "Tiny Turtles" at school. She will be lovingly remembered and forever missed by her family members and many friends.

Delores is survived by her children, Debbe (Curtis) Poitra of Belcourt, Peggy (Mike) Azure of St. John, Barbara (Marcus) Delorme of Belcourt, Jeff (Rochelle) Azure of St. John, and Peter C. Jr. (Angela) Azure of St. John; 20 grandchildren, Troy Davis, Dustin LaRocque, Randi LaRocque, Shannon Allery, Shane Azure, Shawn Azure, Sherri Peltier, Jeremiah Johnson, Chad Azure, Christopher Delorme, Chet Delorme, Lucas Azure, Jeffrey "JP" Azure, Sheldon Azure, Donovan Azure, LeeAnna Azure, Lacey Azure, Ronelle Azure, Jessy Azure, and Casey Azure; many great grandchildren; siblings, Pat (Sharon) Malaterre of Oregon, Adrian (Wanda) Malaterre of Belcourt, Blaine (Connie) Malaterre of Belcourt, and Donna (Lynn) Johnson of Towner; and many nieces and nephews.

Delores was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Mary Delia Malaterre, her husband, Peter C. Azure Sr., infant son, Donovan Azure, sons, Matthew "Macky" Azure and Jeremiah "Trucker" Azure, grandson, Tony "Tonz" Davis, and brothers, Richard Malaterre and Francis Malaterre.
Casket Bearers are all grandchildren. Honorary Bearers are all brothers and son-in-laws. Eucharistic gifts by Blaine and Connie Malaterre. Rosary led by her daughters. Honorary Bearers are all Middle School Staff.

A visitation will begin at 5:00 PM on Thursday, August 8, 2019 at St. Ann's Catholic Church, Belcourt, ND with a Rosary Service at 7:00 PM. Funeral Mass will be Friday, August 9, 2019 at 10:00 AM in the church. Burial will follow services at St. Benedict's Catholic Cemetery, Belcourt, ND.
