Delmar Poitra, age 84, of Belcourt, ND passed away on Wednesday, May 31, 2023 at his home.

Delmar Joseph Poitra was born on September 18, 1938 in Belcourt, ND to Norbert and Blanche (Davis) Poitra.  He was raised in Belcourt and completed his education at Belcourt Schools.  Delmar enlisted in the United States Army in 1955 and received an honorable discharge in 1961.  He was united in marriage to Marlene Vake and together they had three children, Rhonda, Delmar Jr., and Tammy.  They later divorced.  He then met Dorothy Martinson and from this union had two children, Tonya and Joseph. He is also father to a daughter, Lyn. He was proud of all of his children, watched them in various sporting events when they were younger, and enjoyed spending time with them and all of his many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Delmar worked as a glazer, installing windows and mirrors in many businesses and homes.  He worked for Minneapolis Glass and Herman Glass before venturing out on his own.  Delmar loved socializing and visiting with his children, nephews, nieces, and friends.  He called his siblings often and enjoyed their many conversations from day to day.  Delmar will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed.

Delmar is survived by his children, Rhonda Yonkovich of Chisholm, MN and her children, Jesse, Justin and Andrew; Delmar Poitra Jr. of Chisholm, MN and his children, Jessica and Whitney; Tammy Poitra of Chisholm, MN; Tonya Zimmermann of Shakopee, MN and her children, Trevor, Tayton, Trenton, Tegan, Tracen, Ty, and Travis; Joseph (Julie) Martinson of Waconia, MN and their children, Tanner, Landon and Jordyn; and Lyn (Tom) Kruecke of Oklahoma City, OK and their children, Katie, Robert, David, and John; great grandchildren; sister, Gloria Norgreen of Minneapolis, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Delmar was preceded in death by his parents, Norbert and Blanche Poitra, brothers, Lawrence Poitra, Gilbert Poitra, Leon Poitra, Warren Poitra, Frankie Poitra, and Danny Poitra, and sisters, Blanche Lucier, Lucy Iverson, Cecelia Ross, Christine Poitra, Sylvia Everling, and Joyce Gourneau.

Casket Bearers are his children, daughter, Rhonda Yonkovich, son, Delmar Poitra Jr., daughter, Tammy Poitra, daughter, Tonya Zimmermann, son, Joseph Martinson, nephew, Linus Poitra, nephew, Leon Poitra Jr. and niece, Diana Poitra-Fleury.  Honorary Bearers are all family and friends.  Eucharistic Gifts by Tammy Poitra and Delmar Poitra Jr.  Readers are niece, Barbara Poitra, reading a letter of his daughter, and Tonya Zimmermann.  Military Honors by the Lilley-Dionne American Legion of Belcourt and the ND Military Funeral Honor Guard.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, June 8, 2023 at 11:00 AM at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Belcourt, ND with visitation beginning at 8:00 AM and Rosary Service at 10:00 AM prior to the funeral mass.  Burial will follow services at St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery, Belcourt, ND.
