David Reese, age 75, of Hillsboro, ND formerly of Rolla, ND passed away at the Hillsboro Long Term Care after transitioning to hospice recently on Monday, September 28, 2020.  David was born February 6, 1945 to Helen T. Reese (Tastad) and Mark O. Reese in Rolette, ND.  At an early age, the Reese Family moved south of Rolla to the family farm.  Dave enjoyed working the land with his father.  He went to Rolla High School.  He then attended NDSCS where he earned a degree in mechanics.

After graduating NDSCS, David worked as a mechanic.  On October 13, 1966, David was drafted into the US Army, until August 12, 1968, he was honorable discharged.  He served in the Vietnam War and was stationed at Long Binn Post in South Vietnam.  He was a member of the 61 ^st Heavy Equipment Maintenance Co. (GS) APO 96491.  In his later years, David shared stories of his time in Vietnam and enjoyed meeting other veterans who served during that time.  After returning from the war, he worked as a small engine mechanic and at Theel Motors for 30 years.  While working as a mechanic, he farmed with his Dad on the family farm and hand in hand with their neighbor Ryan Schoening until retiring in 2018.

On January 3 ^rd , 1976, a cold winters day with a low of -30 degrees Fahrenheit, in Rock Lake, ND, Dave married Emily Jane Hendrickson.  They lived on the same farm that David grew up on and raised their two children, Amanda Siiri and Levi Allyn.  They will be celebrating their 45 ^th wedding anniversary this year together in heaven.

David enjoyed doing things with his hands.  He was an avid hunter and went every year that he was able.  Their hunting grounds were on the buttes surrounding Bowman, ND, "God's Country."  Hunting brought him lifelong friendships amidst the quiet.  He had many fond memories with the Blees and Thompson families in southwestern ND.  He was a hunter safety instructor for several years and was active in the shooting clubs.  Everything for David revolved around his family, friends, and neighbors; he would do anything to help out.

David is survived by his daughter, Amanda (Brandt) Lemer (Rolla); son, Levi (Katie) Reese (Hillsboro); grandson, Mackintyre Reese; sister, Mary Hasse; niece, Sarah Clement; nephews, Paul Hasse, Kyle Hendrickson, and Ross Hendrickson; and God Son, Weston Schoening.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Emily, parents, Mack and Helen Reese, niece, Paula Guchanas, and son-in-law, Richard Bykonen.

A Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, October 1, 2020 at 11:00 AM at Oxford Cemetery, Rolla, ND.  A visitation will be from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM at Elick Funeral Home, Rolla, ND prior to the graveside services on Thursday, October 1, 2020.  Please wear a cloth mask and there will be ample space for social distancing in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Military Honors by the Fred C. Wagner American Legion Post #235 of Rolla and the Military Funeral Honor Guard of Grand Forks, ND.  Casket Bearers are Ryan Schoening, Weston Schoening, Karson Schoening, Kyle Hendrickson, Ross Hendrickson, Leonard Lange, and Paul Hasse.  Graveside services conducted by Emery Mears.
