David Wayne Gourneau Sr., age 64 of Belcourt, ND passed away on Tuesday, November 24, 2020 at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND.

David Wayne Gourneau Sr. was born on October 28, 1956 in Belcourt, ND to Larry Sr. and Marie Jeanette (Davis) Gourneau.  He was raised in Belcourt and completed his education there as well.  David furthered his education at Mayville State University and obtained his Master's Degree from Northern State University in Aberdeen, SD.  David was the proud father of three sons, Jason, David Jr., and Joshua.  He worked for many years in the Belcourt School system as both a teacher and principal before retiring.

David enjoyed horses and horse racing throughout the years, and he traveled extensively with his brothers and parents to pick up horses or to race horses at different race tracks.  Dave was proud to be a part of the Gourneau Brothers racing stables.  Dave traveled to Assiniboia Downs in Winnipeg, Manitoba for many years, first starting with his Father Larry Sr., and family.  Dave was a supporter of local racing and frequented that Chippewa Downs.  Dave will be missed by the people he met in the racing industry and other organizations he belonged to.

He enjoyed the outdoors, camping and fishing with his grandchildren, and attending any activities that they were involved in.  David loved his family dearly, as they were the most important thing to him.  Spending time with his children, grandchildren, and siblings made him very happy.  He recently liked going to auction sales and collecting antiques and various things he came across.  He was an avid football fan and his favorite team to cheer for was the Vikings.  David will be forever missed and lovingly remembered.

David Sr. is survived by his children, Jason Wayne (Tabitha) Gourneau, David Wayne Gourneau Jr., and Joshua Wayne Gourneau, all of Belcourt; companion, Bonny Keplin of Belcourt; ten grandchildren, Jace Anthony Marion, Ethan Wayne Martell, Kobe Wayne Gourneau, Jacob David Jensen, Adyson Davis, Kaydence Roberta Marie Gourneau, Amya Gourneau, Madison Danielle Champagne, Kenyon Jaydence Wayne Gourneau, and David Wayne Gourneau III; great grandson, Zev Joseph Marion; siblings, William (Linda) Gourneau of Whitewater, CO, Betty (Sheldon) Davis, Connie Gourneau, Larry Jr. (Claudette) Gourneau, all of Belcourt, and Jerry (Lyn) Gourneau of Winnipeg, MB; and many nieces and nephews.

David Sr. was preceded in death by his parents, Larry Sr. and Marie Jeanette Gourneau and grandson, Avan Wayne Gourneau.

Honorary Bearers are William "Bill" Goruneau (brother), Larry Gourneau Jr. (brother), Jerry Gourneau (brother), Frank Gourneau Jr., Sheldon Davis, Timmy Gourneau, Lee Gourneau, and William Houle Jr. (Godchild). Rosary led by Sharon Ballow, Betty Jean Davis, and Carol Gourneau.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Monday, November 30, 2020 at 11:00 AM at St. Ann's Catholic Church, Belcourt, ND with a Rosary Service at 10:30 AM prior the funeral mass.  Burial will follow in St. Ann's Catholic Cemetery, Belcourt, ND.
