Darrell Thomas, age 68, of Rolette, ND passed away on Tuesday, February 24, 2026 at Quentin Burdick Memorial Hospital, Belcourt, ND.

Darrell Thomas age 68 of Rolette, ND passed away after a short illness, in the Quentin Burdick Memorial Hospital in Belcourt, ND.

Darrell is the son of his late parents Rosalie (Azure) and Edmund Thomas. Siblings Lester (Nancy), Leslie, Larry, Lonnie, Carol (Feyber) Hebron and Mark (2023). Darrell is dad to Jackie, Zachory, Christina and Lexi.

Darrell was born to Rosalie (Azure) and Edmund Thomas. He attended school in Rolette and graduated as the valedictorian in 1976. He shined in any sports he joined. Every good player is a team player and Darrell knew that. He had terrific teammates and they were all able to share in the wins and work to improve when there were fails.  A most memorable moment was the amateur baseball tournament where Darrell made the winning hit.

Darrell attended UND in grand forks where he joined a fraternity, Lambda chi. In this time, he also married his high school sweetheart Patti but they divorced 5 years later. He acquired a pilot's license as well as his four-year degree from UND. From UND they went to Albuquerque NM and then Boulder Co where he finished a law degree. He passed his first bar exam in Colorado and would take at least two more. One in the DC area and one in North Dakota. Darrell was also a jack of all trades, his most favorite was vehicles.  He worked on his own motorcycle and cars. He was often asked to assist friends and classmates for a little help. Especially while at UND. He would have his toolbox open with a textbook open as well.

After retiring from law Darrell made his way back to North Dakota. He still had a calling for computer work so he started working on tax preparations. And he really enjoyed making hay on his family farm until his back wouldn't let him do that anymore.

Darrell is survived by his children, Jackie, Zachory, Christina, and Lexi; siblings, Lonnie, Lester, Leslie, Larry, and Carol; as well as nieces and nephews.

Darrell is preceded in death by parents, Rosalie and Edmund Thomas, brothers, Mark and Ricky and niece, Jenifer Hebron.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 19, 2026 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Belcourt, ND with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM.  Burial will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Rolette, ND.
