Obituary

Daniel DeCoteau, age 40, of Belcourt, ND passed away on Wednesday, June 10, 2026 at his home.

Daniel Louis "Danny Boy" DeCoteau was born on June 30, 1985 in Rolla, ND to Daniel Champagne and Mona Lisa DeCoteau. He was raised in Belcourt and graduated from Turtle Mountain Community School.  Daniel worked at Skydancer Casino in Belcourt for 12 years and for a short time on the oil rigs near Williston.  He enjoyed being outdoors, riding bike, hunting, and fishing.  Daniel was dearly loved by his parents, grandmother, brother, niece, nephew, great nieces and all of his family members. He will be forever missed.

Daniel is survived by his parents, Daniel Champagne and Mona Lisa DeCoteau, of Belcourt; grandmother, Margaret Champagne of Belcourt; brother, Steven DeCoteau of Belcourt; niece, Maleah Gourneau; nephew, Ty DeCoteau; great nieces, Luna Mae and Nova Rae; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Daniel was preceded in death by a twin brother, grandparents, Joseph Champagne and Steven and Mary DeCoteau, and numerous uncles, aunties, and cousins.

Casket Bearers are Picky Joe Champagne, Wayne Champagne, Donovan DeCoteau, Mickey Demery, Chris LaFountain, Peter Peltier, Chris Davis, and Alvin DeCoteau Jr. Honorary Bearers are James Champagne, John Champagne, Stanley Champagne, Allen DeCoteau, Austin DeCoteau, Corey DeCoteau, Gene DeCoteau, Skylar DeCoteau, Stacy DeCoteau, Tim DeCoteau, Donald Peltier, and John Schaff Jr. Eucharistic Gifts by Patricia and Sandra Champagne. Readers are Vinessa Keplin and Kari Lynn DeCoteau. Eulogy by Rae Lynn Belgarde. Pall placed by Georgia Morin, Pauline Blue, Candace DeCoteau, Patricia Champagne, Clarissa DeCoteau, and Rae Lynn Belgarde.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, June 17, 2026 at St. Benedict's Catholic Church, Belcourt, ND with visitation at 8:00 AM and Rosary Service at 9:00 AM prior to the funeral mass.  Burial will be held at St. Benedict's Catholic Cemetery, Belcourt, ND. Father Richard Fineo presiding. A meal will follow funeral and burial services at Elmer Davis Fiddler's Hall, Belcourt, ND.
