Craig David Thibert, age 63, of St. John, passed away on March 19, 2026 at Trinity Hospital in Minot, ND surrounded by his loving family and friends.

Craig was born on July 26, 1962 in Belcourt, ND to Arthur "Lawrence" and Bernice (Allery) Thibert.  He was raised and educated in St. John where he remained a lifelong resident.  Following high school, Craig held various jobs, from working at Bill's Service to selling furniture.  For more than 25 years, He was a dedicated employee of Munro Builders/Ace Hardware.  One of his proudest and most cherished roles was coaching basketball.

On May 19, 1984, Craig was united in marriage to Deborah McCloud at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.  Together they were blessed with four children: Weonona, Kyle, Whitney, and Chelse.  When Deb became disabled, Craig lovingly cared for her for many years.  Though they later parted ways after 20 years of marriage, they remained close friends.

In 2001, Craig met Bonnie Mickelson, and from the very beginning, he knew their connection was something special.  As they built their life together, Bonnie's children: Seth, Caleb, Joseph, and Anna, became part of his family, just as his children became part of hers.

Craig loved his family. He deeply cherished his grandchildren and treasured every moment spent with them – attending their events, playing outside, and bringing smiles to their faces. He especially enjoyed making them laugh, often with is classic "pull my finger" joke.

Craig was a man full of personality and humor, always finding ways to make others laugh. His dance moves were unforgettable and he loved singing Johnny Cash songs – along with a spirited rendition of "Happy Birthday." He gave the warmest hugs and had a way of making everyone feel welcome.

An avid outdoorsman, Craig enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time at the lake – whether ice fishing in the winter or cruising on the pontoon in the summer, often stopping at Grizz or Carolyn's for a quick visit.  He loved playing football and throwing bags, and he rarely missed a chance to watch or play sports.  Craig coached basketball, played softball, and was a loyal fan of the Patriots and NDSU football.  He was known for keeping his red Folgers coffee can close at hand for the MLB and NFL pools.  He was also a proud supporter of his hometown, a true woodchuck.

Craig also enjoyed his daily drives around town, often stopping to visit friends – Dave, Sam, Rob, Burt, and many others.  Never one to rush, he preferred to take in the journey, rarely exceeding 40 mph. Known for his unique sense of style, Craig could often be seen in a bright Hawaiian shirt of a humorous graphic tee paired with khaki shorts.  Music and dancing were among his greatest joys, and whether at a concert or a reception, Craig was always on the dance floor.

Tough Craig's time with us feels far too short, he was a true pillar of the community and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Craig is survived by his loving partner, Bonnie Mickelson; his daughters, Weonona (Clay) Trader, Whitney (Byron) Mitchell, and Chelse Davis; his bonus children, Seth (Breanna) Mickelson, Caleb (Courtney) Mickelson, Joseph Mickelson, and Anna Mickelson; his brothers, Harlan (Connie) Thibert, Darrell (Cynthia) Thibert, and Ryan (Stephanie) Thibert; and his sisters, Carolyn (John) Peterson. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Payton, Exavier, Jaylon, Azjiah, KaMylee, Zayvier, Rowen, Kellen, Harlow, Ieree, Sawyer, Layla, Brody, Justin, and Gavin – as well as many aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

Craig was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Bernice, his infant son, Kyle, his grandparents, and several aunts and uncles.

A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 28, 2026 at the Old Gym in St. John, ND.  All are welcome to attend a meal and corn hole following services at the St. John Senior Center.
