Carol Jean Belgarde, age 60, of Belcourt, ND passed away on Saturday, September 21, 2019 at her home.

Carol was born March 18, 1959 in Belcourt, ND to Cecelia Ruth Belgarde and George Davis. She was raised in Belcourt, ND and attended Wahpeton Indian School in 1969. Carol was very caring and loved. She was known an auntie to many. Carol would help people when they needed food or a place to stay. She had a great sense of humor and loved to tease people. Carol knew how to make anyone laugh. She loved being a mom and grandmother and was really close to her siblings.

Carol loved animals ever since she was a little girl and wanted to have her own animal sanctuary. She used to carry around a bucket of lizards and made beds for baby mice our to match boxes to keep as her babies much to her mother Cecelia's dismay. Carol joked that she had a zoo for all the pets her daughter Patty would bring home. She loved listening to her brother Gary play guitar and sing. She also enjoyed singing songs like "Cecelia" while dancing her shimmy. Carol had six beautiful children that she loved with all her heart even though she couldn't always be with them. She enjoyed playing and talking with her nine grandchildren every chance she had. She will be missed by many and will live on in our hearts forever. Carol was laid to rest with her beloved daughter, Ruth Marie Poitra.

Carol is survived by her children, Dale C. (Mozelle) Brunelle of Grand Forks, David Poitra of Belcourt, Barbara Poitra of Fargo, Patricia Poitra of Belcourt, and Jorddin Giron of Belcourt; nine grandchildren, Lillian, Anthony, Izabelle, Emmaline, Mabel, Hollis, Minah, Emily, and Brandon Jr.; and her siblings, Theresa (Richard) Wilson of Dunseith, Bonita Chirstopherson of Minot, Marlys Belgarde of Minot, and Darrell Belgarde of Minot; her God Children, Candice McCloud and Robert Wilson; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Ruth Marie Poitra, brothers, Gary William Belgarde and Dale Belgarde, and her grandparents.

A Wake Service will begin at 4:00 PM on Thursday, September 26, 2019 at St. Ann's Catholic Church, Belcourt, ND with a Rosary Service at 7:00 PM. A Memorial Mass will take place on Friday, September 27, 2019 at 10:00 AM in the church with Fr. Dennis Mary Dugan presiding. Burial will be in St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery, Belcourt, ND.
