Bridget Jerome, age 90, of Belcourt, ND passed away on Tuesday, December 17, 2024 at SMP-St. Kateri Hospital, Rolla, ND.
Bridget (Brochin) Jerome was born on October 17, 1934 in Bicknell, Indiana to Henry and Cecelia (Wissing) Brochin. She attended St. John's Catholic School in primary grades, Sacred Heart Catholic grade school until 8th grade, St. Rose Academy, an all-girls school, through her junior year, and then entered Immaculation Conception Convent in 1951. After three years of intensive religious training, Bridget was missioned to Evansville, Indiana, where she taught in parochial schools for five years. In 1960, she was missioned to St. Ann's Mission in Belcourt to reach and be the church organist. In 1967, Bridget went back to school to complete her undergraduate studies. She graduated from Mount Marty College, Yankton, SD in 1968. She then accepted and assistantship at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania and completed her graduate studies in counseling and guidance.
Bridget returned to Belcourt and worked in the tribal adult education program for two years. She then joined the counseling staff at Turtle Mountain Community High School for two years. She then moved to Hastings, Nebraska working at the Hastings Regional Center as a psychologist for one year, then accepting a counseling position at the Brookings-Harbor High School in Oregon.
Bridget returned to Belcourt and married Dan Jerome on June 1, 1976 in Winnipeg, MB. She was employed with Rolla School system for four years as a counselor. In 1980, she accepted the counselor position at the Dunseith Public Schools, working there for two years. Bridget began working at the Turtle Mountain Community School again in 1982 as the elementary counselor where she eventually retired. She was strong in her catholic faith and was committed to her church, being a church organist and always playing music for services during Christmas mass, singing at church mass, and was often seen at the 10:00 AM worship services. Bridget will be lovingly remembered.
Bridget is survived by her step-children, Jonathan Jerome of Worcester, MA, Owen Jerome of Belcourt, Monica Jerome of Belcourt, Allison Jerome of Worcester, MA, and Karen (Mark) Schaefer of Great Falls, MT; nine step-grandchildren, Jesse, Josh, Holden, Ryan, Christian, Ashley, Amanda, Kish, and Netah, sister-in-law's, Julie Burcham of Belcourt and Agnes Azure of Belcourt; and brother-in-law, Dwain (Dellia) Jerome of Belcourt; and nieces and nephews.
Bridget was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Daniel Jerome and half-brother, Donald Brochin.
A private funeral mass was held on December 17, 2024.
