Obituary

Brian Birkland, age 61, of Belcourt, ND passed away on Tuesday, December 2, 2025 at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND surrounded by his loving family.

Brian Dale Birkland was born on February 5, 1964 in Rolla, ND to James and Ruby (Kuhn) Birkland.  He was raised in Dunseith, ND and completed his education there as well.  Brian furthered his education at Turtle Mountain College for two years.  He worked as a machinist for CTI Metal Works for many years.

Brian was united in marriage to Tina Grant on February 23, 2001 in Belcourt. Together they raised four children, Jana, Courtney, Colten, and Grant.  Brian loved watching his children do anything and everything, traveling to many different places supporting his sons and watching them play whichever sport season they were in at the time. Brian was a very proud father, who loved his wife and children dearly.  He was an avid sports fan, supporting local teams and cheering on his favorite football team, the Steelers.  Brian enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and was always happy being out in nature. He liked playing music and played with his dad in "The Basement Boys Band."  Brian enjoyed time with his family traveling and the many vacations that they took together.   He was one of the most genuine and kind people, not only to his family but those around him, always making sure everyone was cared for.  Brian will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed.

Brian is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Tina Birkland of Belcourt; children, Jana (Charlie) Scarsbrook of Marshall Town, IA, Courtney Rishling of Belcourt, Colten Birkland of Grand Forks, and Grant (Shahiah Lunday) Birkland of Grand Forks; five grandchildren, Ian, Illani, Acesen, Jacinta, and Emeri; parents, James and Ruby Birkland of Dunseith; siblings, Brenda Birkland-Swart of Union, OR and Larry Birkland of Dunseith; and nieces and nephews.
