Betty Johnston, age 85, of Rolla, ND passed away Thursday, August 27, 2020 at Trinity Hospital in Minot, ND.

Betty Jean Johnston was born on August 23, 1935 in Utah to parents Frank and Lillian Buchanan. They made their way to Hot Springs, MT where she completed her education. She was united in marriage to George Johnston and together made their home on a farm near Rolla, ND raising three children, Barbara, Gary, and Terry. Betty helped farm along side George for many years in Towner County. She loved painting pictures, which now will be cherished keepsakes. She also loved her gardening. Betty will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed.

Betty is survived by her husband George, her sister Rosie, her children, Barbara Papillion of Riverside, Georgia, Gary Johnston of Grand Forks, Terry (Bill) Aasheim of Cooperstown; four grandchildren, Pat Aasheim, Tangee Sanderson, Jackie Rau, and Chelsie Gaytan; four great grandchildren, Morgan, Austin, Kylee, and Tiffanie; and one great great grandchild; and nieces and nephews.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Lillian Buchanan.

Betty will be celebrated and buried with her husband George following funeral services at 1:00 PM on Saturday, October 17, 2026 at Presbyterian Church, Rolla, ND in the Rolla City Cemetery, Rolla, ND. Fellowship will follow in the church basement following funeral services.
