Barry Pays, age 53, of Belcourt, ND passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 20, 2021 surrounded by his family at his home.

Barry William Pays was born on July 5, 1967 in Belcourt, ND to Arvella Marie (Schindler) and Richard "Sonny" Pays.  He was raised in Belcourt, ND and attended school in Belcourt through his junior year of high school and then transferred to Dunseith High School where he graduated in 1985.  Barry furthered his education at Lake Region Technical College where he obtained his auto and diesel mechanic degrees.

Barry met the Love of his Life, Stephanie Frederick, in 2003, they were united in marriage on October 17, 2019.  They shared the same wedding date with Stephanie's parents, John and Betty Frederick.  Soon after Barry and Stephanie met, they became foster parents.  Barry loved their children dearly and always did his best to be the best parent he could be.

Barry worked several jobs throughout the years in North Dakota and Montana.  He loved carpentry work, working on cars and detailing cars.  His most recent job and most fulfilling job was working for the Indian Health Service, Quentin N. Burdick Memorial Health Care Facility as a Motor Vehicle Operator.  He was very dedicated to his job, loved his work family and most importantly, truly loved helping others.  Besides work, he thoroughly enjoyed attending car races and going to music concerts.  He enjoyed the outdoors doing yardwork and going fishing although he did not like to eat fish!  He will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by all who knew him.

Barry is survived by his wife, Stephanie Pays of Belcourt; children, Wylie Pays, Amanda Pays, Brooke Pays, Alexandria Gillis, Sarah Gillis, Destiny Frederick, Hannah Frederick, Jayde St. Claire, Treyvon Pays, Kyler Poitra and children that always held a special place in Barry's heart; Khrysta, Larissa & Mariah. Grandchildren, Zandria Gillis, Zennon Allery, and Aubree Schroeder. Siblings; Anthea (Terry) Jeannotte of Belcourt, ND, Darlita (Mark) Sarkilahti of Bismarck, ND, Lynell Pays (Danny) of Belcourt, ND and Merlin (Lisa) Pays of Belcourt, ND, Michelle Vega of Dunseith, ND, Kimberly (Shawn) Anderson of Albertville, MN and Anthony (Tracey) Bauer of Bismarck, ND and many nieces and nephews.

Barry was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Arvella Pays, father-in-law, John Frederick, Sr. and son-in-law, Colt Allery.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, June 25, 2021 at St. Ann's Catholic Church, Belcourt, ND with a Rosary Service at 9:00 AM.  A private family burial will take place at a later date.
