Ashley Benedict Short, age 37, of Belcourt, ND passed away on Wednesday May 19,2021 at his home.

Ashely Benedict Short was born on March 8,1984 to Alfred Short Sr. and Barbara Elaine Houle. He was raised in Belcourt, ND and lived there his whole life.  Ashley has one child named Ashley Short Jr, who was his pride and joy. He attended Job Corps in Minot, ND and obtained his GED during that time. He later went to college at the TMCC and graduated with his Carpentry degree. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and swimming at the lakes. He operated heavy machinery and loved doing mechanic work. His favorite thing to do was working on vehicles with his dad Alfred "Puck" Short Sr., whom he was inseparable from. He loved going to derby's, the horse races and the casino. Ashely was always laughing, joking and smiling wherever you seen him. He loved spending time with his family and friends. He was a great uncle who would do anything to see his nieces and nephews smile or be happy. He will be lovingly remembered by his family members and many friends.

Ashely is survived by his mother, Barbara Elaine Houle of Belcourt; his son, Ashley Short Jr. of Belcourt; Siblings, Jason Houle of Belcourt, Alfred Short II of Belcourt, Priscilla Storbakken of Belcourt and Alicia Houle of Belcourt; and many nieces and nephews.

Ashley was preceded in death by his grandparents Alfred & Cecelia (Bruce) Short; Benedict & Anna (LaFountain) Houle; his father Alfred A. "Puck" Short; his uncle Maynard Short.

Casket Bearers are Jason Houle, Kirt Houle, Christopher Storbakken Jr., Joey Short, Jesse Short, Rodney Peltier, Matthew Peltier, and Linus LaVallie.  Honorary Bearers are Alfred Short Jr., Ryan Houle, Ronald Houle Sr., Christopher PoniCappo, Darrell Scott, and all family and friends.  Rosary led by Lynette Turcotte and Debra McCanna.  Readers are Michelle Azure and Christina Poitra.  Eucharistic gifts by Darrell Scott and Amanda Walking Elk.  Music by Joe Parisien and Richard Turcotte.

Funeral Mass will be Friday, May 28, 2021 at 10:00 AM at St. Ann's Catholic Church, Belcourt, ND with visitation beginning at 8:00 AM and a Rosary Service at 9:00 AM prior to the funeral mass.   Burial will follow in St. Ann's Catholic Cemetery, Belcourt, ND.
