Arthur Hoffman, age 90, of Rolette, ND passed away on Thursday, November 28, 2019 at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, Bismarck, ND.
Arthur Hoffman was born on May 5, 1929 on a farm south of Rolette. He was the 4th of eight children born to CK Hoffman and Grace (Lee) Hoffman. Art grew up in Rolette County and attended school in Mylo and Dion Lake through the 8th grade.
He met Sherla Gable while working at the Fred Dubuque farm. Art and Sherla were married on November 14, 1952 at the Rolette Assembly of God Church. Born to this union was Jefferie in 1954 and Roger in 1957.
After working for Fred Dubuque, Art began working on the Bill Johnson farm and also for Rolette County in the winter driving the snow plow. Art then began working for R&O Contractors shortly thereafter, where he worked for over 25 years until that business closed. He then went to work for the City of Rolette as the city engineer until his retirement in 2004.
Art was a man of many talents, with skills in carpentry, plumbing, heating and electrical. He and his brothers remodeled his home in Rolette, his brother Bill's home in Cando and a lake home of his sister Hazel at Lake Upsilon. He helped many friends in Rolette and the surrounding area with various building projects. Art maintained a love of farming through his life helping his brother Lawrence and others in their farming endeavors. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. He was well known for his teasing and practical jokes. He enjoyed hunting with his brother Lawrence, brother-in-law Joe Klein and his two sons. He enjoyed wood working; making toys, picture frames, clocks and other items for family and friends. Art loved a good game of pinochle. He enjoyed attending air shows and hot air balloon events. He was a lifelong member of the Assembly of God Church in Rolette, where he was sure to be of help by mowing, shoveling or in any other way he could.
Art was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Sherla Mae (Gable) Hoffman, his parents, CK and Grace (Lee) Hoffman, his sisters, Harriet Hoffman and Mary (Hoffman) Prouty and brothers, John (Jack) and Bill Hoffman.
Art is survived by sons, Jefferie (Julie) of Bismarck and Roger of Juneau, Alaska; grandchildren, Emily (Wes) Anderson of Minneapolis, MN, Trent (Hailey) Hoffman of Bismarck, Richard Hoffman of Juneau, Alaska, and Christopher (Samantha) Hoffman of Sitka, Alaska; sisters, Hazel Klein of Bremerton, Washington and Ruth Klebe of Yelm, Washington; brother, Lawrence (Shirley) Hoffman of Rolla; sister-in-law, Judy Hoffman of Cando; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Friday, December 6, 2019 at Assembly of God Church, Rolette, ND with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM. Funeral Services will be Saturday, December 7, 2019 at 10:30 AM in the church with Pastor Gene Wilson officiating. Burial will follow at the Rolette City Cemetery, Rolette, ND.
