Allen Poitra, age 60, of Belcourt, ND passed away on Saturday, March 5, 2022 at St. Andrew's Hospital, Bottineau, ND.

Allen Scott Poitra was born on May 30, 1961 in Minneapolis, MN to Stephen N. and Gladys R. (Gourneau) Poitra.  He was raised in Minnesota, where he also graduated high school.  Growing up he participated in gymnastics, rings were his favorite.  He grew up with brothers, they loved to go hunting, fishing, and being outdoors. Allen did some woodworking throughout the years but was limited due to health issues.  He enjoyed going on drives with his friends, Mike and Bob, and visiting with others.  He loved spending his free time with family and friends, especially his parents and brothers, they all enjoyed dinners together. Allen liked to watch the Sci-Fi Channel and teasing the family dog "Baby", like his dad.  He loved fishing and watching sports with his brother and dad.  Allen became a father on June 3, 1990 to his first son and on May 13, 1991 to his first daughter.  He enjoyed spending summers with his children and teaching them to fish and hunt.  He also enjoyed spending evenings watching horror movies with them.  Allen was a free-spirited man who always held a smile on his face and laugh with every grin.  He will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by his family members and friends.

Allen is survived by his son, Allen Poitra Jr. of MN; daughter, Lisa (John) Varela (Poitra) of CO; and siblings, Frank Poitra of ND, Jeff (Kim) Poitra of SD, and Barbara Cavanaugh of MN; and three granddaughters, Gloria, Chloe, and Elena Varela.  Allen loved his children so much and was looking forward to many more memories with them, but God had other plans for his son.

Allen was preceded in death by his parents, Stephen and Gladys Poitra and his grandparents.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, March 11, 2022 at 10:00 AM at St. Ann's Catholic Church, Belcourt, ND with visitation beginning at 8:00 AM and Rosary Service at 9:00 AM prior to the funeral mass.  Burial will take place in the spring in St. Ann's Catholic Cemetery, Belcourt, ND.
