Adrian Malaterre Sr., age 75, of Belcourt, ND passed away on Sunday, July 12, 2020 at Trinity Hospital, Minot, ND surrounded by his loving family.

Adrian William Malaterre Sr. was born on August 31, 1944 in Belcourt, ND to Frank and Mary Delia (Davis) Malaterre.  He was raised in Belcourt and attended school in the Belcourt area as well as attending school in Marty, SD.  He later returned to the Belcourt area and obtained his GED.

He married Elizabeth A. Charbonneau on February 27, 1965 and together they had eight children.  They later divorced and went their separate ways.  Adrian later married Patricia L. (Blue) Jeanotte and this marriage was blessed after his first marriage was annulled.  She was the love of his life and they were immensely happy, residing in Minnesota.  Patricia died in 2008, this was a great loss for Adrian and he eventually moved back to Belcourt in 2009 to the Retirement Home.

He enjoyed staying at the Retirement Home and made many friends there.  Adrian enjoyed visiting other residents, playing cards, and also going to Bingo.  He was a life-time Knights of Columbus member and loved to work the Bingo while sharing time with other members and visiting friends there.  He and Adrian Jr. would go to Bingo together and had a lot of good visits and fun while playing.  He and Junior liked to work on cars together as well.  When his car needed fixing he would get Junior under the hood and it would soon be back up and running

Adrian also enjoyed driving around the community and up in the bush checking out the sights and scenery, and visiting friends and family.  He also loved to play guitar and would often chord for his brother as Francis played the violin.  They played for a lot of family and community functions and all who heard them danced and jigged to their lively tunes.  Adrian enjoyed jigging too and would jig and dance until he couldn't dance anymore.  As his health prevented him from jigging in his later years he still kept in touch with his step-son, Eric Jeanotte, for years talking about music.

Adrian was a fan of old western movies but was a Vikings fan as well, watching many football games over a western movie.  He was a Vikings fan to the end and will always be remembered for being a loyal fan of his favorite team.  Adrian will forever be loved by his children and family and will be greatly missed by them and all of his family and friends.

Adrian is survived by six of his children, Annette (Keith) Gooden of Bismarck, Adrian Jr. (Stephanie Houle) Malaterre of Belcourt, Michael Malaterre of Moorhead, MN, Sandra (Blaine) Delong of Belcourt, Julie (Jerry) Longie of Williston, and Rebecca Malaterre of Minot; 22 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; 8 step-children; siblings, Pat (Sharon) Malaterre of Oregon, Blaine (Connie) Malaterre of Belcourt, and Donna (Lynn) Johnson of Towner; and many nieces and nephews.

Adrian Sr. was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Delia Malaterre, wife, Patricia Malaterre, son, David Malaterre, daughter, Colleen Malaterre, still-born grandson, sister, Delores Azure, and brothers, Francis Malaterre, Richard Malaterre, and Lloyd Davis.

Casket Bearers are Peter Malaterre, Erick Malaterre, Woody Malaterre, Jon Malaterre, Jason Gooden, and Lucas Gladue.   Honorary Bearers are all family, friends, sister, Donna, and brothers, Blaine and Patrick.  Music by Layton Vondal and Terry Baker.  Rosary led by Father Dennis Mary Dugan.  Eucharistic gifts by Chelsy Malaterre and Alisha Malaterre.

Wake Services and Rosary will begin at 7:30 PM on Sunday, July 19, 2020 at St. Ann's Catholic Church, Belcourt, ND.  Funeral Mass will be Monday, July 20, 2020 at 10:00 AM in the church with Father Dennis Mary Dugan presiding.  Burial will follow in St. Ann's Catholic Cemetery, Belcourt, ND.
